In his latest report, Kuo claims that Apple is currently ironing out the kinks with its implementation of under-display fingerprint sensor tech. This will be done over the next 18 months. Beyond that, the tech will be fitted into the design of the iPhones of 2021.

Kuo also says that it is likely that Apple will use a variant of Qualcomm’s ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor. Apple’s take on it will reportedly have a wider sensor area, much like in its patent filing. This lets the scanner work in a larger area on the display. As an aside, Kuo also mentions that the under-display Touch ID will be the likely choice if the company were to use biometrics for its Apple Watch. And that’s a big if, as he stops short of actually saying that Apple is currently working on doing that. (Source: 9to5Mac)
