According to Apple, the M1-based 13-inch MacBook Pro offers up to 2.8x faster CPU performance when compared to its predecessor. The 8-core GPU within the chip also provides up to 5x faster graphics performance while the chip is also able to process machine learning-related tasks up to 11x faster with the help of its 16-core Neural Engine.
On another hand, the image signal processor within M1 also helped enhance the image output from the MacBook Pro’s FaceTime HD camera. Apple has also included a studio-quality three-mic array into the laptop as well as the support for USB 4 on its two USB-C Thunderbolt ports. Since M1 also focused on power efficiency, this led to the increase of battery life in the new model. As a comparison, the M1-based 13-inch MacBook Pro can go up to 17 hours of web surfing and 20 hours of Apple TV app movie playback while the Intel-based model can only last up to 10 hours in both scenarios.
Despite that, the company has retained the same starting price point of RM 5599 for the new M1-based 13-inch MacBook Pro with 256GB solid state drive and RM 6399 for the 512GB variant. However, it is still not available for sale in Malaysia though which is something that we will keep you posted once the arrival status has been updated by Apple.
