Last month, we saw reports that claim that Apple will be launching new MacBook Pro laptops with updated innards in early 2023. These were said to be specifically the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. It looks like the reveal may happen as soon as this week, with an announcement happening tomorrow, at least to members of the press. A number of news outlets, including 9to5Mac and MacRumors, have received word that Apple will be holding a Mac-related press briefing this week. Front Page Tech, which is run by industry leakster Jon Prosser, has also teased that the fruit company will be putting up a press release “tomorrow”.
— Mark Gurman (@markgurman) January 16, 2023 Rounding it all up is Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who says that the press briefings will happen tomorrow, with embargoes lifting next Monday. He also links his newsletter from back in October last year which specifically mentions the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops with M2 chips. Though in the newsletter the prediction at the time was for the new MacBook Pro models to be announced in the first half of March. All that being said, these new laptops are expected to only be minor spec bumps to existing models. The most notable difference is the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, which may also give them WiFi 6E capabilities. As such, there will probably not be a large scale event for the announcement the way the company does for its annual iPhone update’ for example. As such, if you’re expecting news on other products such as a new Mac Pro refresh, or something similar for the Mac mini, it’s probably best to not hold your breath for news on those things.
