According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple wants to break up the already archaic app into separate apps for Music, TV, and Podcasts. More importantly, Apple intends to have the new apps ready and prepped for the next version of its macOS, version 10.15. The function of each of the mentioned apps is pretty much self-explanatory. The Music app will undoubtedly be the new hub for the Apple Music service. Naturally, the TV app will be dedicated toward running Apple’s upcoming Apple TV Plus service, and the Podcasts app will be for, well, podcasts. The decision to break up iTunes does make a lot of sense, to some people at least. the app is, as The Verge puts it, already ancient by software standards. It also doesn’t help Apple’s case that the app doesn’t have a great track record among people. Alas, while iTunes may be branching out towards different apps, it doesn’t mean that it will disappear entirely. The app is still going to be around for the foreseeable future. Primarily because it is still the only way for legacy iPod and iOS devices to sync and interact with a Mac or PC.
As for when macOS version 10.15 will be launching; online rumours are hinting that the Apple will be making the announcement of its new OS during this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is set to kick off on 3 June until 7 June 2019.
