As it turns out, OnwardMobility’s licence to utilise the BlackBerry name has been cancelled according to Kevin Michaluk of CrackBerry together with Android Police. The reason behind the cancellation is rather unclear although both Kevin and Android Police have mentioned that BlackBerry is trying to distance itself from its former self as a phone company. The original teaser, back in 2020. [Image: Onward Mobilty. This news does sound a little bit odd because it was just a month ago that OnwardMobility has come out with a statement that both the company and its BlackBerry project is still alive. This is despite the fact that the company has completely missed its original target of launching a new BlackBerry device within the first half of 2021. On another hand, BlackBerry itself has recently sold off whatever is left of its legacy patents which are related to mobile devices, messaging, and wireless networking for USD600 million (~RM2.5 billion). For some, they might see this as proof that the company is really trying to disassociate itself from the past which led to the demise of the BlackBerry 5G project.
