Originally announced to be in development back in February, the Canon EOS R5 is equipped with a 5.76M-dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder with 120Hz refresh rate, as well as a vari-angle 2.1M-dot LCD screen and a top LCD indicator display. It features dual card slots which respectively support CFExpress and UHS-II SD, microphone and headphone jacks, a mini HDMI port, and has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. According to the company, the camera is weather, drip and dust resistant as well. Powering it is a high capacity LP-E6NH battery.
The new flagship Canon camera sports a 45MP CMOS sensor with a Digic X processor, which allows for high quality still images and video recording of up to 8K resolution. Specifically, it can capture images at up to 20fps with the electronic shutter or 12fps with the mechanical shutter, while video-wise it is able to record 8K RAW up to 30p and 4K up to 120p.
The camera features Canon’s new Dual Pixel CMOS AF II which provides 100-percent coverage of the focus area consisting of 1,053 points. With new machine learning AF tracking algorithms coupled with the Digic X processor, the EOS R5’s autofocusing capability promises top-notch performance via its tracking features. Keeping the camera steady for both photos and videos is a 5-axis in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) made to work together with the in-lens stabilisation systems found on certain Canon RF-mount lenses.
Next up is the Canon EOS R6 which sports a 3.69M-dot OLED viewfinder and a vari-angle 1.62M-dot LCD screen. Unlike its flagship sibling, it lacks a top LCD indicator. Other than that, it features dual card slots that only support UHS-II SD, microphone and headphone jacks, a mini HDMI port, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and is powered by the same LP-E6NH battery as the R5. Similarly, it is also weather, drip and dust resistant.
The entry-level full-frame mirrorless features a 20.1MP CMOS sensor and the same Digic X processor, which enables it to shoot images in full resolution at 20fps via electronic shutter or 12fps with the mechanical shutter. Video-wise, the camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 60p and 1080 HD at 120p. Like the EOS R5, it also comes with the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and IBIS system.
Both the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 are available for pre-order starting today – with the former slated to ship at the end of July, while the latter will be released by late August. The R5 is priced at USD3,900 (~RM16,624) for body only, and USD5,000 (~RM21,312) when paired with a RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens. Whereas the R6 retails at USD2,500 (~RM10,656) for just the body, and USD2,900 (~RM12,360) together with a RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM lens. (Source: Canon USA official website)
