DC touts its non-fungible tokens are created with the studio’s “environmentally sustainable and energy efficient” technology, enabling it to produce “millions of NFTs for fans with near zero cost.” As mentioned earlier, the comic maker’s NFTs consist of artworks and iconic comic book covers, featuring characters from the DC universe. Following the digital trading card (and lootbox) style of approach, these will also come in three levels of rarities: Common, Rare, and Legendary. We spent a lot of time on how to translate and adapt these classic covers into a 21st century format such as NFTs,” said DC publisher and chief creative officer Jim Lee. “This drop pays homage to our 87 year history while visualising a future in which NFTs play a foundational role in novel ways of interacting with DC content and unlocking new experiences.”
DC will be giving away free NFTs from this collection to celebrate the arrival of its upcoming 16th FanDome event, which will be held virtually next weekend – aptly on 16 October 2021. To be eligible to receive the digital collectible, all you have to do is register for the event via its official website. According to the company, one free randomly-selected NFT will be given out for every registration, but it did not mention when users are expected to receive it. Chances are, it will likely be on the NFTs’ launch day on 5 October, or on the opening day for FanDome. In addition, those who’ve registered are also entitled to receive a second free random NFT if they share their first one on social media. (Source: DC press release via The Verge)
