For the past six years, reports of a sequel began circulating as the director constantly assured the public that the embers of the project are very much alive. Early last year, Warner Bros. hired Matthew Robinson, who penned films such as Black Box and Dora and The Lost City of Gold, to work on the script for the sequel after the studio fell in love with his pitch. In October of 2019, Doug Liman announced that the script had already been finished. Recently, Emily Blunt spoke to IndieWire about Live Die Repeat and Repeat, stating that the gears have indeed been moving, but getting them to mesh together is a whole other story. The actress further commented on the tough filming process for the first film and her dedication to the role. But Blunt knows that it could all just be a pipe dream. She joked:
I certainly hope this gets off the ground. Edge of Tomorrow was one of those high-energy sci-fi blasts that was a really fun time with the popcorn in hand. Besides, it also introduced Emily Blunt as a no-nonsense kick-a** female persona which really altered my perspective of the actress at that time.
