According to the automaker, Mach-Eau was born from a survey conducted by the company’s European branch, which found that one in five drivers will miss the smell of petrol once settling with an electric vehicle. The remainder, on the other hand, claimed that they would miss the scent at some degree. Interestingly, Ford also noted that petrol ranked as a more popular scent than both wine and cheese, and almost identically to the smell of new books. So what’s in the bottle? Rather than simply filling up a 50ml container with gasoline and calling it a day, the automaker teamed up with UK-based fragrance supplier and consulting company Olfiction to develop the new novelty item. On top of featuring the fuel-scented aroma, the fragrance also comes with smells of car interiors, rubber tires, and even hints of horses. The latter may seem like an odd addition to the mix, but keep in mind that Ford is promoting its new Mustang after all.
Mach-Eau made its debut at the recently held Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, where it was sampled to visitors. Despite featuring its own packaging as well as having the potential to entice car enthusiasts to bring home a bottle or two, Ford revealed that the novelty fragrance product is merely developed for the purpose of promoting the new Mustang Mach-E GT and is not for sale. Which is probably all for the better, as it isn’t the greatest of ideas to turn up for a date or an important meeting while reeking of gasoline… and horses. (Source / Images: Ford [Official website])
