As compared to the original VIVE headset, the new VIVE Cosmos headset doesn’t require external trackers. This is because the headset utilizes a method called inside-out tracking through its six built-in camera sensors which also allows it to have six degrees of freedom and 110-degrees field of view. Housed within its flip-up visor design, the VIVE Cosmos offers a pair of 3.4-inch 90Hz displays that have a combined resolution of 2880 x 1700. Alongside an adjustable headband, the headset is also equipped with stereo headphones although users can choose to detach them and utilize their own headphones since VIVE Cosmos comes with a 3.5mm audio jack as a standard. HTC has also introduced a new controller for VIVE Cosmos which comes with a glowing light ring that allows the headset to track it without external trackers. Priced at RM 3699, each pre-order of VIVE Cosmos would be accompanied by free VIVEPORT Infinity subscription for 12-month alongside a VR shooter game called Aeon.
