The Chinese tech giant filed the trademark application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, according to LetsGoDitgital. The application was filed on 12 July. If granted, it will be one of three possible names for Huawei’s mobile operating system. As for which exact name will be used, it will likely be depending on the market it’s in.
Huawei’s CEO of consumer business, Richard Yu, previously stated that the OS will be ready by the end of the year, with an international version ready by Q2 of 2020. The US previously announced its willingness to ease restrictions on the Chinese company. It doesn’t seem to be stopping it from carrying on with the development of its own OS though. It has been about two months since US President Donald Trump first signed the executive order that led to these chain of events.
