In fact, one such trademark application was filed with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). According to the MyIPO database, the HongMeng trademark was filed on 24 May 2019 under Class 9 and 4 which pretty much covers all the bases, as far as an operating system goes. According to Reuters, Huawei has also filed for a trademark of the HongMeng name in Europe and at least nine other countries. Among them are Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, and New Zealand, based on data from the UN World Intellectual Property Organisation. It has also done so for Peru, according to the country’s anti-trust agency Indecopi. Previously, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, said that the HongMeng OS for the international market will be ready by the first half of 2020.
