“Curious? So are they,” Nothing wrote in its tweet, which included a photo seemingly featuring two adorable and vibrant budgerigars (also known as budgies). However, what’s easily missed, especially if you decided to just scroll on, is the thing that the birds are perched on. Though vague, this is so far our first and (sadly) best look at the upcoming Nothing phone (1). From what can be seen, the handset is shown to feature an iPhone-like flat edged frame that the company says is made from recycled aluminium. Also visible is the upper part of the device’s camera island, which is proposed to be a vertical pill-shaped array in the initial teaser that Nothing CEO Carl Pei had shown off during The Truth keynote back in March.
— Nothing (@nothing) June 13, 2022 Interestingly, the back of the Nothing phone (1) appears to be decked out in white. It is uncertain whether this theme covers the entirety of the panel, or just a small portion of it. The latter means that other parts of the back will be presented with a transparent body which will showcase the inner workings on the smartphone. Or maybe it’s something even more extravagant. The phone (1) teaser. [Image: Nothing]Our take on this? It’s a bit of a long shot, but a market-ready smartphone featuring electrochromic glass technology would definitely be interesting. Just in case you’re unfamiliar, this particular tech can shift glass from being opaque to translucent through electrical means. And it’s actually something that has been featured on mobile devices before – more specifically, two separate concept phones developed respectively by vivo and Pei’s former company, OnePlus.
Continuing on. Our guess is that the rear panel would shift from white to transparent when you unlock it, with the same white lines shown in the initial teaser being the only ones unchanged after the transition. Again, this is merely our own take on what could be, so don’t take our word for it. But seriously, it would be cool if it turned out to be true. The Nothing phone (1) is slated to officially launch next month on 12 July 2022. Those interested can catch the event which will be live streamed via the company’s official website at 4pm BST (11pm local time). (Source: Nothing [Twitter])
