Much like its predecessor, the next generation smartwatch series is available in two sizes: 42mm and 46mm. But what’s different this time around is that both models of the OPPO Watch 2 now come with curved OLED touch displays – unlike last year’s model, where it was only made available for the larger variant. That being said, the screens on the new watches feature a resolution of 326ppi and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Design-wise, it appears that OPPO had decided to retain the same look of its first smartwatch for the second generation release. This might disappoint some people, especially those who are looking for something that does not resemble the Apple Watch – a design that’s widely used by a large number of tech brands in the market. But at least to OPPO’s credit, the curved display does try to set its wearables apart from the rest. And much like its predecessor, the new watches sport a 5ATM rating for water resistance.

Under the hood of the OPPO Watch 2 series is the Snapdragon 4100 chipset and a selection of health tracking capabilities, including sensors for heart rate and blood oxygen (Sp02) monitoring. As for features, you can expect a variety of smartwatch functions such as phone-to-watch notifications and various built-in fitness and health tracking applications. Connectivity-wise, both variants also come with cellular support via eSIM, while a Bluetooth-only model is also available for the 42mm size.  OPPO claims that the Watch 2 is capable of lasting up to four days on a full charge, and up to 16 days when used in Power Saver mode. Included together with the new wearables is a proprietary VOOC charger for topping up power to their batteries.

It is worth mentioning that the Chinese release of the OPPO Watch 2 comes with the brand’s ColoOS interface instead of WearOS. However, that could change for the potential international version and we might actually see them featuring the relaunched version of WearOS that is jointly developed by Samsung and Google. The new OPPO Watch 2 series is set to ship out in China starting 6 August 2021. The 42mm variant will retail at RMB 1,500 (~RM 982) and RMB 1,300 (~RM 851) for the Bluetooth-only model, while the 46mm is priced at RMB 2,000 (~RM 1,310). There are no plans for an international release at this current time. (Source: OPPO [Official website])
