According to Bernama, Mazlan also said as a reminder that flying them without prior approval is illegal. And with the New Year’s Eve’s celebration, there’s the possibility of private drones colliding with those being flown by the authorities. Other safety concerned were also voiced, such as drones falling on people.
Mazlan said that “a special police team will use a special device to jam or kill any drones flown by any individual in the area”. This is likely referring to the Orion series of anti-drone guns made by Singaporean company TRD. Depending on the exact model, they have effective ranges of between one to two kilometres. The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have taken down drones that were flying without prior approval a number of times before.
