According to a leaked Qualcomm specs sheet posted by GSMArena, the Snapdragon 735 will be based on the 7nm die lithography; the process node as Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 855 SoC. However, the chipset’s CPU setup seems to be running on rather odd 1+1+6 setup, versus the typical 2+6 core setup that the other chipsets typically operate in. Speed-wise, we’re looking at a single 2.9GHz Kryo 4xx core, one 2.4GHz Kryo 4xx core, and six Kryo 4xx cores running at 1.8GHz. More importantly, the specs sheet also lists down the modem of the Snapdragon 735 as having a 5G modem. Capable of running on sub-6GHz spectrum.
While this may sound ordinary to some, it’s important to note that this implementation of a 5G modem means that Qualcomm intends to bring 5G connectivity to mid-range device, as opposed to just limited the upcoming feature to high-end and premium Android smartphone alone. There’s no mention as to when Qualcomm intends to officially announced the Snapdragon 735 SoC. Given the recent launch of the trio of mid-range Snapdragon chipsets, though, it’s likely that we won’t be seeing this particular chipset until the next year, at the earliest.
