To be clear, no official announcements for the Snapdragon 898 has been made, so much so that even the current name isn’t official. In the case of prominent leakster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), their speculation goes all the way back to July this year, but they believe that Qualcomm’s successor to the Snapdragon 888+ will be called Snapdragon 895 instead of 898. Another leakster, Digital Chat Station, believes that the Snapdragon “895” will be based on a 4nm process, provided by Samsung. Additionally, the new processor is expected to have a 20% performance uplift over the current Snapdragon 888+. They also say that the CPU will run hotter than a Snapdragon 888, although that may simply be a translation issue brought about by Google Translate.
What is more interesting is that Ice Universe also named a supposed Snapdragon 895+, which will also be based on the 4nm process node, but one provided by TSMC instead of Samsung. Further, the next-generation SOCs are expected to run on the new Kryo 780 CPU infusion that is based off ARM’s Cortex V9 architecture, that could run a 1+3+4 core layout.
