According to Collider, there were rumblings about the project since early 2014. There were several email exchanges between Tarantino and ex-Sony boss Amy Pascal concerning the project, one of which Tarantino read, “D/Z could be really fun!” Pascal described the comic book series as “super cool.” However, it’s still unclear what would Tarantino’s role be exactly. Tarantino did pen the comics, but it’s unconfirmed if he will be co-writing the entirety of the screenplay with Carmichael or if the stand-up comedian will be penning the script by himself with creative input provided by Tarantino. There’s also the possibility that Carmichael will be penning the screenplay with someone else entirely.
We’re also unsure if Quentin Tarantino will be directing the film, though, one can dream. Tarantino has repeatedly said that he’ll retire after helming 10 films. Assuming we take his word for it, and considering Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is his 9th picture, it’s difficult to see Tarantino directing Django/Zorro before he rides off into the sunset. Knowing Tarantino, he would probably want to work on something completely different, fresh and possibly shocking. Tarantino will most likely just be a producer of the film. The Django/Zorro comic series is a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s banger of a film, Django Unchained starring Jamie Foxx. The story takes place several years after the film and sees Django once again as a bounty hunter, pursuing evil men. One day, by sheer chance, Django bumps into the now aged Zorro. He teams up with Zorro and goes on an adventure, fighting and freeing native Americans from slavery. Sometimes, Django even puts on the iconic mask! (Source: Collider)
