The company made the announcement via its own website. In it, Rockstar says that this means all forms of online functionality will be shut down. This means no more stat trackers and leaderboards, not even the ability to buy these games, or their premium currency, on the old consoles.

First to go down will be the purchase of the premium currency, Shark Cash Cards, starting 15 September. Then comes the turn of GTA Online itself, as well as stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club, On 16 December. Incidentally, the Rockstar Games Social Club features for two other games will also be shut down, but on 16 September. These are Max Payne 3 and LA Noire, but only on the aforementioned ageing consoles. None of these will affect the singleplayer components of any of these games. (Source: Rockstar)
