Designed for mid-range smartphones, the new chip is produced based on the 5nm technology that is similarly featured on high-end SoCs such as the HiSilicon Kirin 9000 and Apple A14 Bionic. The Exynos 1080 is equipped with a single Cortex-A78 core, three Cortex-A77 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores. Powering its graphics acceleration capability is a Mali-G78 MP10 GPU.
The newly launched Samsung chipset enables smartphone displays to support FHD+ resolutions with a refresh rate of 144Hz, as well as WQHD+ at 90Hz. It also includes AI processing features that are enhanced via its onboard NPUs that is capable of reaching 5.7 TOPS (trillion operations per second). In terms of cellular connectivity, the Exynos 1080 offers 5G support via sub-6GHz and mmWave. Photography-wise, the chip is able to support cameras that provide up to 200MP or dual 32MP setups. Meanwhile, video processing support include resolutions of up to 4K at 60fps with HDR10+.
During the event, Samsung has confirmed that the Exynos 1080 chipset will make its debut on an upcoming Vivo smartphone. Although the company did not mention the device’s model, sources believe that the phone in question is the Vivo X60 that is slated to be unveiled next week.
