If the name Corephotonics sounds familiar to some of you, it’s because prior to this, the mobile camera module maker was responsible for the development of the OPPO’s Dual Camera Zoom technology. That features a 5x lossless zoom dual camera module. The feature first came to light during MWC 2017 as a prototype, but never progressed any further beyond that state. On that note, OPPO also recently announced its new 10x lossless zoom mobile camera technology. While it was never officially credited in online reports, it’s highly possible that Corephotonics was responsible for the development of the camera module as well.

At the time of writing, it is unclear how Samsung’s purchase would affect the relationship between Corephotonics and OPPO. Having said that, it isn’t a stretch of the imagination to see that Samsung’s procurement of the brand could both effectively and immediately terminate any prior dealings that the two might have had before the acquisition.
