If the rumours are to be believed, Sony wouldn’t be the first company to use such a cooling solution in a full-frame mirrorless camera. Previously, Panasonic managed to cramp in a built-in fan in its S1H camera, that in turn is capable of shooting 6K video at 24fps.
However, further details of the leak suggest that the prototype a7S III does not record in 8K. Petapixel speculated that given that the camera is capable of shooting at 4K at 120 fps, there is a possibility that it can record in 6K at 24 fps. The Sony a7s III was rumoured to release last year, but it seems to be that Sony is taking its time with its development. As it stands, the mentioned prototype was checked out months ago, meaning that Sony could have made some changes between then and now.
In any case, we’ll just have to wait for Sony’s official statement on the camera. As it stands, even the official name of the camera has yet to be confirmed, but more importantly, SAR believes that the successor to the a7S II may only start making its way to the public after the launch of the Sony a9 II.
