Over the weekend, rumours points to a possibility of a Souls-like game taking place in or near the world of the first game in the series. Sources to Fanbyte corroborated this rumour, and have suggested the name of the game being Final Fantasy Origin. Square Enix is rumoured to be removing the drapes off of the game at E3. This will then be followed by a public alpha demo, much like Nioh prior to its launch. It will even have its own name, Stranger in Paradise. Then, like the more recent Final Fantasy VII Remake, it will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive for a time. After that, it will make its way to PC. Naturally, no dates for any of these yet.
It’s easy to imagine mixed reception to this. For one, JRPG traditionalists will probably not like it being so action oriented. It’s a similar reaction to the gameplay of Final Fantasy VII Remake. But for newer audiences, it’s a great way to introduce the very first game of the franchise. And if the name Origin is to be taken at face value, it may be closely related to its unnamed protagonist, the Warrior of Light. A similar concept exists, though buried in the postgame of the PSP title Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy. More specifically, the entirety of the Scenario 000, which ties the plot of Dissidia to the ending of the original Final Fantasy.
