The sale officially kicked off yesterday, and surprisingly, major titles that were launched early this year are receiving discounts as high as 50%. Today, that feature list includes Far Cry: New Dawn, the Resident Evil 2 remake, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. For that matter, some classic titles such as the Enhanced Edition of Baldur’s Gate has also been discounted by 75%.
As mentioned, this year’s special theme is the Grand Prix, with an animalistic twist. The event this year is team-based, and you’ll have to choose one of the five teams to join: the Pig, Hare, Cockatiel, Tortoise, or Corgi (I joined this one). Like all games, there are rules. The rules are pretty technical, but here’s the general gist of it; once you choose a team, you’ll need to work together with other players to win the race. The first step is to fill up your Odometer’s point capacity. To earn these points, you’ll need to complete different sets of quests. Quest that, obviously, requires you to play certain game titles.
Some examples of the Grand Prix quests include playing titles you already own, as well as titles with Steam Achivements. You can also gain Boost points by purchasing a game; the earning system here, by the way, is 59 points for every RM1 you spend. Once you’ve accumulated enough Boost points, you can then use them to either boost your team’s speed, or attack another team. Ultimately the end goal is to win the Steam Grand Prix, where the grand prize are free games. Distributed to the top three team, and to random members in each of those teams. Naturally, there are rules to participating, but they are quite technical, so we do advise that you give it a read if you wish to understand the event’s mechanics in-depth.
The Steam Summer started yesterday, and will continue on until 10 July 2019. So, if you’ve got a title on sale that you’ve been dying to add to your list, now is as good a time as any to do so. Otherwise, you’re just going to have to wait until the next Steam sale.
