In fact, a fair number of them already have fibre plans for residents of Jasin to sign up for. Some of these include Maxis, Digi, and even TNB’s own subsidiary, City Broadband. We’ll get to their rates in a separate article. That said, it sounds like a few of them are still in discussions with TNB. For instance, despite Time and U Mobile having a presence during the event, They don’t actually have brochures to hand out. Representatives of each telco tell us that they are still in the process of finalising the appropriate prices for the plans that they intend to offer.
It’s much the same story even for the other ISPs who already have their plans sorted out. Again, speaking to representatives during the announcement ceremony in Jasin, it appears that TNB will be the one to allocate the available resources to ISPs in the areas where the NFCP pilot project was held. In other words, these ISPs have the prices for their plans and have enough infrastructure allocated for signups, but they’re still discussing with TNB as to the allocation of the fibre infrastructure they get access to. Signups during this period may be taken as a registration of interest, which may lead to them getting access to more fibre networks to serve more subscribers.
