Although released as a test for now, the new feature complements the existing recording tool for Spaces, which has been made available to all Twitter users since January. As recordings can be shared on the platform for public listening, clips could act as an accompanying preview – giving listeners an insight of what was discussed during the session. In another possible use case, hosts could also clip highlighted moments – such as important statements, jokes and so on – and later share them on their Twitter feed.

Clubhouse has offered the same feature as well as the ability to record entire sessions to its users since October of last year. Therefore, it is only natural for Twitter to play catch up sooner or later. As mentioned earlier, the new tool is only available to select iOS users for the time being, with plans to roll it out to some Android and web users in the near future.
